Sorry Mom

Best Mom Ever, above, L

Hi Mom*,

Sorry I haven’t updated my blog more often. The good news is, you’ve visited Seattle so much in the past year, I’ve been able to tell you my show schedule in person, and you’ve come to a ton! Thank you!

Love you** lots,

*If you’re not my mom, whoohoo!!!! More than one person reads my blog!!!!

**Still just my mom

Let’s Get Ready to Rumble!

James Sasser looks like this guy and is also from Oregon.

Tonight for $3 you can hear me play for 4-6 hours.*

Thur, Sept. 6, 2012 – all Seattle, Wa.

5-8 ROOF DECK of Hard Rock, w Jessica Lynne.

VENUE NOTES: This is NOT a lame douchey touristy deck, it’s like The Triple Door if there were firepits, padded patio furniture, a better view and no wait cause no one knows about it.

SHOW NOTES: You will say you don’t like “that kind” of Country Music. Then you will come cause it’s 85 degrees out on a roof deck at sunset and change your mind. Unless you are 85% of women from 35-55, then you already like this music according to Nielsen.

9-12 Liam Fitzgerald and The Rainieros at the Little Red Hen in Greenlake, with Portland’s James Sasser.

NOTES: The Rainieros (uh oh here it goes) are one of the most fun bands I’m playing with right now because duh, Honky Tonk.

Originals by Liam from his latest album, “Last Call”, mixed with covers of Bob Wills, Ernest Tubb, Hank Williams, Faron Young, and other genre-defining Americana roots and real country classics.

James Sasser is really cute, but he’s married, ladies and gentlemen, so thank god we can at least get a piece of his voice and music. Otherwise, ugh, life is so unfair.

Oh and Dancers, James will bring the cha cha to the Hen like you’ve never seen.

The Rainieros play the 9 and 11pm set, James at 10. Oops make that James at 9pm, The Rainieros at 10 and 11. And everyone at the bar at 12 midnight.

So while many people pay $40, $60, $80,000 for a graduate degree in the History of American Music, you, my dear friend, can hear some of the earliest classic standards as well as some of the newest evolutions of the genre, for three dollars – not $30, not $10, but $3!!!!!

Also, to anyone that can make it, please bring power bars and protein drinks for me, make sure I eat something besides nachos, and take that beer out of my hands until at least the last set at the Hen. After that, I can’t promise I’ll sound good, but I bet I’ll be fun to watch!

Like Tony says, Tonight!

*Why is this and every other post all about me and where I am playing, instead of “these bands are playing, I’m playing in their band, they’re great, etc. etc.”??? Because my mom asked me to do it this way.

Show Tonight: Wear Your White Shoes Once More Before Tuesday

There is so much going on this weekend in Seattle!!!

If you want to do something NOT in the pull-out section of this week’s The Stranger, come see me saw away with Palatine Ave tonight. We are super fun, don’t have drug problems, and (most of us – ok fine, them-not-me) have day jobs so we (read: they) also have social skills.

Show Tonight!
Sat, Sept. 1

WHEN: 9pm

WHO: Palatine Ave, Americana alt-country, from Seattle, Wa

WHERE: Skylark Cafe, right off one of the very first exits off the West Seattle Bridge

COST: probably $5-$10, more like $5 usually.

YOU’RE FAMOUS!! Cause we’re filming the show, so if you show up and flash the camera, we’ll totally put that shit on the Internet! We’ll credit you, promise, but take the money.

For the violin-fans, I’ve also solved The Mystery of the Squeaky E String – thank you Lasley & Russ string shop in Ballard!

For food fans, they have been serving Mac & Cheese in multiple varieties long before it was hip, so they win.

For boozy drink fans, they are one of the first places in Seattle that I discovered served Dark & Stormies, the national cocktail of Bermuda!

So wear your white shoes once more before Tuesday, ford the Duwamish, and enjoy live music!!!

Now, Sunday, Get in your Car

This is my sock drawer.

People, get your outdoors on! Leave the city for the bucolic – no, I hate that word….. pastoral??? no I’m atheist….. gambling lands of Snoqualmie, WA, today for a 3-hr set of autoharp dulcimer and country twang!

No, really. Maybe not at the same time, but in the same room!

Before you call my mother and tell her you’re worried about me, yes, I’m sober, no I didn’t drink heavily last night and here’s what the bleepin Jesus I’m talking about:

Jessica Lynne and Kimberly Newland Show, today!
Date: 9/26 TODAY!!
Time: 2-5pm
Where: Bindlestick cafe, Snoqualmie, Wa
Why: because it’s outside, in a tent, they have coffee, and while I don’t have a hangover, you probably do, and this is a great little Sunday town to drive to in the foothills of the Cascades, right off I-90, and stumble around with a headache. And if it sucks, you can always go climb Mt. Si and jump off for hating the arts/being a bad daughter/son, etc.

Really. Stone cold sober.

Oh there’s also the outlet mall nearby. Discounted 12-pack tube socks! And country music! If you require more to live, then you are not American!

See you there!!!!

Honky Tonk Hard Times

Fiddle part for The Rainieros “Family Ballad”.

Come out to The Tractor this Saturday night, 8/25, to hear me play with Seattle’s Honky Tonk band, The Rainieros!!

First up at 9 are The Outlaws, a Waylon Jennings cover band, then us at 10, then Lucky Lawrence and The Souvenirs!

Lucky and team have been in the studio recording this summer, which is why they’re headlining – they’re gonna be sharp, hot, and a hard act to follow… so no one is!

See you there!!!

Show tonight/Tuesday
